Kangaroo’s

Kangaroos can go over 35 miles per hour and can leap more than 30 feet in a single leap!  They can jump over 6 feet in the air but they can’t move backwards!

Did you know there are over 70 different kinds of kangaroo’s?  The Red kangaroos live across Australia and the Grey species live east of Australia, these two types are the biggest types of kangaroos.  They are herbivores and eat grass and shrubs.  Their lifespan is around 23 years and weigh around 200 lbs and can be up to 6 feet tall!

Young kangaroos are threatened by eagles and dingo’s and when they feel in danger they just quickly dive down into their mom’s pouch for protection!  They usually start leaving their mom’s pouch around 4 months old then live outside of their pouch by 10 months.

  1. Dear Riley,
I was so excited to read your post about kangaroos. I didn’t know that there are over 70 different kinds of kangaroos. I’ve only seen pictures of kangaroos but haven’t seen them in person. I do know that they are strong but I also didn’t realize that they can’t move backwards.

Thanks for teaching me about kangaroos,
    Mrs. Fordyce

  2. Dear Riley,
This is so fun that you wrote a post about Kangaroo’s. One morning when I was getting ready to leave for work, we had a kangaroo in our front yard! Cooper thought it was pretty cool. Have you ever seen a kangaroo in real life?
