Orcas

Orcas are also called killer whales and live in family groups called pods. Sometimes up to 40 individuals live in a pod. Members of the pod make distinctive calls that only other members of their pod will recognize. Orcas are one of the worlds most powerful predators. They have teeth up to 4 inches ( 10 centimeters ) long and can grab seals right of the ice. Orcas eat seals, sea lions, and even other whales. Orcas live in the cold, coastal water from the polar regions to the equator.

Kangaroo’s

Kangaroos can go over 35 miles per hour and can leap more than 30 feet in a single leap!  They can jump over 6 feet in the air but they can’t move backwards!

Did you know there are over 70 different kinds of kangaroo’s?  The Red kangaroos live across Australia and the Grey species live east of Australia, these two types are the biggest types of kangaroos.  They are herbivores and eat grass and shrubs.  Their lifespan is around 23 years and weigh around 200 lbs and can be up to 6 feet tall!

Young kangaroos are threatened by eagles and dingo’s and when they feel in danger they just quickly dive down into their mom’s pouch for protection!  They usually start leaving their mom’s pouch around 4 months old then live outside of their pouch by 10 months.

Cheetah’s!

A cheetah is the fastest runner on earth. A cheetah can reach speeds of over 70 miles (113 kilometers) per hour. The cheetah’s light body, long legs, and super flexible backbone all help the cheetah cover lots of ground. A cheetahs claws and long tail help to keep the cheetah balanced  and makes them have more traction when making high speed turns. Cheetahs mostly live in open or lightly wooded sections of African and parts of Asia.

The Ocean Vacuum!

Did you know there is a huge group of plastic trash in the middle of the Pacific Ocean?  It is bigger than the whole state of Texas and it is growing bigger and bigger!  Luckily there is an invention called the Ocean Vacuum that would  trap the garbage as the normal current pushes it into a 62 mile long floating barrier.  If the testing works out, they may use this invention that would clean up the trash by 42% in the next 10 years!  best-inventions-2016182Maldives
